Leapmotor B05 First Look: To Launch in UK 2026, under £30k, 168kW Rapid Charging, Affordable EV Hatchback With 270-Mile Range & Premium Features

At the Munich Motor Show 2025, Chinese automaker Leapmotor unveiled its upcoming Leapmotor B05 electric hatchback, a model set to reach the UK market in 2026. Unlike the wave of SUVs currently dominating the EV segment, the B05 takes the form of a sleek, family-friendly hatchback positioned to compete directly with the Volkswagen ID.3 and MG4.

Leapmotor B05 Pricing

One of the most striking aspects of the Leapmotor B05 is its expected starting price. Industry insiders suggest the hatchback will be priced under £30,000, with early estimates pointing to a figure closer to £27,000–£28,000. This would strategically undercut the MG4, making the B05 one of the most affordable EV hatchbacks in its class.

Leapmotor B05 Powertrain and Performance

The Leapmotor B05 is expected to carry the 67 kWh battery pack used in other Leapmotor models, delivering a range of around 270 miles on a single charge. A single electric motor is likely to produce approximately 200 bhp, enabling a 0–62 mph sprint in about 8 seconds.

Leapmotor has hinted at the possibility of larger battery options in the future, potentially offering up to 400 miles of range, although it remains uncertain whether these will be available in European markets.

Fast-Charging Capability

Charging performance is another highlight. The Leapmotor B05 will support DC fast charging at up to 168 kW, placing it ahead of many rivals. This capability should allow 30–80% charging in under 20 minutes, making the hatchback suitable for both urban commutes and longer journeys.

Premium Equipment as Standard

Though the model displayed in Munich was a static prototype without an interior, Leapmotor confirmed that the UK version will launch in a single, high-spec trim. Expected standard features include:

  • Panoramic glass roof
  • 360° parking cameras
  • Heated and ventilated seats with leatherette upholstery
  • Wireless smartphone charging
  • Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability, enabling the car to function as a portable power supply
  • A 14.6-inch infotainment display, powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon processor

Leapmotor has built a reputation for offering generously equipped interiors at competitive prices, and the B05 is set to continue that trend.

European Production Plans

In a significant move, Leapmotor announced plans to manufacture the Leapmotor B05 in Europe alongside its upcoming B10 crossover. European production will help the company avoid tariffs and import duties while potentially qualifying the B05 for the UK’s electric car grant, from which Chinese imports are currently excluded.

Leapmotor’s Growing European Presence

The Leapmotor–Stellantis joint venture has already introduced several models to the UK, including the C10 SUV, the B10 crossover, and the compact T03 city car. The B05 will be the fourth addition to the lineup, sold and serviced through the Stellantis dealer network.

Conclusion

With its competitive pricing, rapid charging technology, and high-spec standard equipment, the Leapmotor B05 is shaping up to be a strong contender in the European EV hatchback market. Scheduled for UK launch in 2026, it could represent one of the most accessible and well-equipped electric family cars in its segment.
